Monday June 2nd 2014

Dearest Homemaker,

How is a fresh Monday morning treating you? I started mine as usual with a pink feline nose in my face and paw telling me it is time to wake up. Alarm by cat, she is dependable and  although her wake up times vary, she always has me awake before any alarm goes off.
She is also much more relentless than any alarm she will not be deterred from being pushed away or being forced off the bed. Ones only recourse is to get out of bed.

After taking the kids to school, I was off to the market jiggety- jig. Not to buy groceries but to buy a birthday card for my Mimi who is turning 92 on the 5th. So many years on God's green earth. So much to share. Recently, while she was experiencing a difficult time I sent her a prayer shawl that I had knitted. In return, she sent me a poem she wrote. I was so impressed by her words. 92 and still learning and leaning on God. May we all have that wisdom.

The prayer shawl is very simple to make I cast on 5 stitches then simply garter stitch across increasing by one at the beginning of  every row. I bind off when it looks like the yarn will be running out. I mostly use one skein of Lion's Brand Homespun yarn. My needles are size 13 circular.

Are you cleaning home today?  I'm sure you do your share of cleaning everyday as keeper of the home. This morning I have been doing laundry and while folding I watched the last 30 minutes of the movie Little Women. I so enjoy the version with Winona Ryder and Christian Bale.

Do you every watch TV or listen to anything while you clean? I love silence but I also like to orchestrate my background sounds. Many times I listen to audio books from my iphone. There is a free app called Librivox. You can also stream this directly from the website on your computer.       www.librivox.org
All the books are in the public domain and are completely free to listen to. I have been listening to Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery and for non-fiction Working for God by Andrew Murray. Both of these have helped the dishes, sweeping, mopping and such become a pleasant way to spend the day.

The rest of the day is still before me one more errand before I pick up the kids from school and of course still lots of chores. It is Monday so cleaning toilets and vacuuming the public rooms are on the to do list. I believe I will quickly whip a box mix cake together. The mix and icing containers have been sitting on the counter and the children have big eyes wondering when these two will come together. Our family enjoys Enchiladas so they are on the menu tonight.

Have a great day homemaking,

Mrs. Smith

P.S. I am sharing this post on             Strangers and Pilgrims on Earth

    1. Thank you for welcoming me. I was unaware of the verification so I turned it off thanks for the tip. I love my home and being a homemaker and just want to share with as many ladies as I can that being at home is truly a blessing.

  2. Hello Laura,
What a lovely start to your blog. I am visiting from Strangers and Pilgrims. I too love cats although I don't have a cat at the moment. The prayer shawl is a lovely idea.
I will have a look at Librivox as I enjoy listening to audio books after dinner at night. I'm not one for watching TV very often. Iwill certainly visit here again.
    Blessings Gail

  4. You sound like a domestic goddess to me.....such a lovely post. The prayer shawl is lovely. I too love the Winona Ryder version of Little Women, though I also like the 1940's one with June Allyson. How lovely to listen to Anne of Green Gables whilst you dust away those cobwebs. Xx
